NIFT Patna To Support Bhagalpur Handloom Cluster Scheme November, 2014
The National Institue of Fashion Technology Patna has taken the command to identify the problems in Bhagalpur cluster development and suggest the corrective measures for its development.
Union Ministry of textiles has selected the NIFT Patna under comprehensive power loom cluster development scheme (CPCDS) to identify the need and gaps of Handloom clusters in Bhagalpur
As per the records around 200 megatonne of Handloom silk is produced annually in the cluster out of which half of the silk is exported by exporters and rest is used for the domestic production of sarees, suit salwar, home furnishing and others
The current total value from the cluster is Rs 100 crore annually with 50% percent turnover from the domestic market.
Due to availability of rich silk in the region the total turnover can be much more than current scenario so a team led by NIFTians from Patna has took the charge and will now be working to find the loopholes.
Majority of the team comprises of Students and Professors from the Management department of fashion
The Union Ministry of textiles is ready to give a support of Rs 40 Crore for the development of cluster.
Also, there are around 25000 Handloom weavers and most of them are job seeker in spite of having such a rich silk growth and many Handloom industries.
NIFT Patna is expected to work on these issues and bring about a change that can turn this unorganized sector in an organized one.
